Several noob Probs

Hello,

I just changed from Windows to Linux and got a few probs and dunno how to solve them. I use Mandrake 10. 1 Community. I canīt instll updates and dunno how to install packages. rpm packeges are easy to handle for me, but thats all I know .

So if i start rpmdrake and search for updates, select all and then click on install, it just crashes. Even if my pc runs a whole night it wonīt install the new packages (tried). I think it just freezes.

So is there another solution, to install new packages or updates, but rpmdrake? I dunno much about the console. So this would be a bad way for me. Sorry im noob.

On the Menu, probably under Configuration, Packaging, Open Synaptic Software Manager. You will have to enter your root password when prompted.

Select Reload, when this has completed select Mark All Upgrades, then select Apply.

I had a similar situation wih Redhat 9. Instead of installing all the updates at once, I installed a few at a time. I'll let you judge what you want a few to be. Not sure why that worked vs all at once, but it did. Also log in as root to bypass the password prompt you get when trying to update as a regular user. Anway thats my two cents.
