setup of POP3 and SMTP for slackware
 

I'm having dificulties trying to setup POP3 and SMTP for slackware.
Online docs are kind of poor.
Any hints for good info ?
Cookbook for slackaware e-mail ??

Are you trying to set up mail servers? If so, which ones?

Email is relatively easy on the client side. Server side it can resemble the digestive system of a cow. This may be part of the reason companies can charge big bucks for customized server distros of Linux. I'm sure many would pay to avoid the pain.

I use qmail. It gave me grief setting it up, though part of the challenge was virtual domains, webmail, imap -- stuff that a really basic set up wouldn't require. And fortunately once it's set up it's secure and stable. The trick is getting there.

I'm not sure. I use vpopmail, but you probably don't want that unless you're hosting virtual domains. One document that gets cited alot as a good source of information is

I didn't find it all that helpful setting up a complicated 'toaster' type mail abomination, but if you're keeping things simple it might be very useful. Personally I'd like it if everyone in the world said, screw this email stuff, we're going to go with something new based on jabber ( http://www.jabber.org ). Jabber was designed, whereas the email system evolved. When things evolve you get stuff like an animal that breathes and swallows through the same tube. But I'm starting to rant.
