setting xine to play my dvd drive?
Yes i am a newbie! I finally got xine to install using the rpm's i found from a helpful hint here! Anyway, it trys to us /dev/dvd as my dvd drive but thats not what it is on my system. The path is /mnt/cdrom2 I tried to change the path in xine but it just always looks for /dev/dvd .....How can i set it different? Oh and i get errors like:
Xine engine error: no available plugin available to play (file) ...
I know i should go to xine's site and get help but i couldnt find any help there! I just figured ya'll are nice people and wanna help. hehe
Thanks .....

just creaet a symlink from cdrom2 to dvd, it'll make things a lot easier, as /dev/dvd will be used by many programs as a default
ln -s /dev/cdrom2 /dev/dvd
and what kind of files are you trying to play? there are many xine plugins at the Penguin Liberation Front, search for it.
.............
of course, the better solution would be.... MPLAYER!!!!!!

Xine engine error:

i thought everything was supposed to be with it but maybe not? thanks for the reply anyway.
The termanology is what is messing with me i guess i'm not completely stupid. Just a normal windoz user. hehe Oh and is there rpm's for Mplayer?

you should compile mplayer from source, cos it's really easy, and if you use a program as hardware intensive as a dvd player using an i386 compiled rpm, you will lose out on SO much performance it's stupid. you shouldn't be scared of compilnig from source.
because of this issue MPlayer doesn't currently have rpm's, but they've just about finished devising runtime cpu detection, which will make it work better, so rpm's should start appearing in the next few months.
