Setting up wireless in Centos 6.2

Good evening all,
Just built my kernal for my class 2.6.39.4 which is the one the professor wanted us to use. I have gone into the make menuconfig and selected everything for the wireless. I have run iwconfig and still cannot get the laptop to see the wireless. Any help would be appreciated.

Help up to help you. Give us information we can use, such as:
1) details about your wireless hardware.
2) what driver is required, if you know. If you don't know, do you have hwinfo installed? hwinfo --netcard can give you such information.
