setting up mail smtp

hi im trying to learn php in a linux environment i have some code which will send a message via smtp using gpg encryption, but i have no idea how to set up , the mail, smtp, i can set it up using, some packages and i can retreive and send emails, using pop etc.. not a problem its more to do with setting up postix or mail

anyone know how to do it? i have found tuturials but when it comes to configuring it its a bit tricky in the explanation

SMTP configuration need to be done in php.ini file. I do not program much so I do not know how to send mails from a php script. You will still need to give SMTP configurations with all the necessary authorizations.
