Setting up Internet on Red Hat

Hi,
I'm using Red Hat 8 and I have an ADSL connection...I'm sharing the Internet connection with 2 other comps on my network. How do I connect to the Internet? Everything is fine in Windows but I don't know how to go online in Linux. I can ping the network though (Please don't get confused because I have another thread in this forum that says that I can't ping the network...That's another friend's comp).

did you try with "internet configuration Wizard" tool? I do not remember bec'z i m using RHEL 3, but just check with the following path.

click "start applicaion button" >> System Tools >> Internet Configuratioon Wizard" and click on XDSL connection and try configuring modem.

Once you get connected with internet, you will need to set some iptables (bec'z ur using RHL 8.0) rules to share internet.

for sharing internet and to setup rules, just search in google.com or in linuxquestions.org, you will get lots of tutorial on it.

Ok...maybe I wasn't specific enough...I want to connect to the Internet using a shared connection with another comp using WinXP.

Can it be done?

It shouldn't be a problem. Set your IP address for the Ethernet adapter on the Linux machine (usually eth0) for any open IP address on your network. I'd say try 192.168.0.10 , but at least something along the lines of 192.168.0.xxx Set the subnet mask for 255.255.255.0 . Set the default gateway and primary DNS for 192.168.0.1 . This is the IP address of your XP machine. Internet Connection Sharing on XP only works on this IP address. The only thing here that might not work exactly as written is the IP address of your Linux box. As I said, be sure to use an open IP address on the network. Let me know how it works out.

Dear rcx11, this thread is about 2 years old. I don't think that arion is still waiting for an answer.

I wasn't even paying attention to dates. I saw this thread while looking for one to fix my problem. I knew how to fix it, so I answered.
