You need to use hplip for HP printers though the Laserjet Pro M12w is not listed in the supported devices. It's probably already available within Ubuntu 17.04.
Others running Ubuntu have selected slightly different printers and found that the M12w works fine, see here.

Hplip
I tried hplip many times, but it didn't solve the problem. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

I've not had HPLIP fail to work for me, but I can't find that model, HP LaserJet Pro M12w, on the HPLIP supported devices list.
You might want to doublecheck the model number and check for yourself. http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web.../laserjet.html

You can also try to use straight CUPS to configure your printer via http://localhost:631
The Brother wireless printer only likes to be configured this way.. your mileage will vary.
