setting up email

How can I set up email so that I could receive and send emails from the command line?
I tried Mutt (I didn't configure it), composed an email, sent it (the message was: mail sent), however, I haven't received anything on my gmail account

While browsing some tutorials I have come accross the following example:
cat reports | mail myboss@mycompany

I ran similar command and obviously nothing happened

How can I configure it?

have you checked man mail or man mutt?
mail being a core cli email subsytem in linux that will be set up for system messages.
vi will also work as a mail client.

it does simple boil down to putting your isp email account and server data into the configuration settings.

I couldn't find anything on the man pages. Where am I supposed to write the my email address or my domain? Shall I replace localhost.localdomain?
