Setting up dual boot with 2 seperate hard drives

I have installed Windows XP SP2 on a SATA RAID 0 and have it running fine. I also have tried to install linux (Mandrake) on a seperate 80 Gb IDE drive. Linux installs fine, but I cannot figure out how to set up the boot loader. It can't see the RAID with Windows on it. Could this possibly be caused by the fact that mandrake cant recognize either RAID or SATA without extra drivers? Thanks in advance.

Try running liloconfig.

If linux can "see" the windows partition, it will install it with lilo.
If this doesn't work, you might want to add S-ATA support in the kernel.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response. But the thing is, I'm still a newbie. Where can i find the liloconfig file? How do I add SATA support to the kernel? sorry for all the questions, but thanks for helping.

The only way you can learn is by asking and reading.
The only real way you can learn is by trying and failing.

liloconfig should come with your distro (if you're using lilo as your boot loader. something you should). /sbin/liloconfig is mine

To get s-ata support with the kernel you'll have to recompile it. Something that might be very messy the first time you try, but read the second sentence of this post and you know what i'll advice you to do (just be sure to have more than one entry to a working kernel image in lilo). You should really read a howto on the kernel to get some basic knowledge of what that you need and should add to it.

Good luck
