Setting up ADSL in Mandrake

I just got an ADSL modem, and now I need to install it on Mandrake. I've googled, but I still can't figure it out;

All I got from my ISP was a username/password and a modem. All the details are automatically set up by the CD in the modem's box, which is for Windows XP. Do I need to have this information? Can I get it without calling them?

My modem's USB. I've heard that you need a PPPoE client[1], meaning PPP over Ethernet. Do I need something entirely different for a USB one?

I've heard a lot of people saying they don't need anti-virus because they run Linux. Do I still need a firewall? Can anyone recommend an uncomplicated one? ( I run Sygate Personal on my Windows XP computer.)

[1] The CD creates a connection called "D-Link PPPoE", so I'm pretty sure PPPoE has nothing to do with the way my modem connects to my PC-- I'm just making sure.

Here's whats up
PPPoE is the connection from the modem to the CO
you really don't need a linux anti-virus client
a firewall is neccessary, all linux firewalls use iptables (a good frontend is guarddog - google it)
you need to install the proper drivers for your modem - we'll need a brand name/model number to help you
i recommend going with an Ethernet connection - your isp should be able to supply you with an Ethernet capable modem if need be
