setting up a mail server in rh9
complete :newbie: ...so, sorry for not understanding a few things in advance...
ok, i work for my father and his medium to small size company. I would like to slowly turn my current laptop into a web and mail server for the company. the first thing i would like to learn is how to setup a mail server. i'd like to start small, like, only sending and receiving mail as a single user from my laptop. then i would like to set it up so that various users on the network can fetch their mail from this laptop. thnx :Pengy: |
Perhaps these links I have collected will help you.
# Common e-mail tools sendmail - postfix - sends mail to local users (and internet when configured correctly) fetchmail - gets mail from internet accounts (non-Hotmail type) procmail - sorts and delivers into separate mailboxes mutt - mail client that sucks less than all the others Email the Linux Way Suresh Ramasubramanian's email guide The Linux Mail User HOWTO The Linux Electronic Mail Administrator HOWTO SquirrelMail web mail Why use Hotmail when there is LinuxMail? |
thnx alot man

i don't think i'd use a laptop tho to run a mail/web server... that's problems waiting to happen....
sounds to me like you would be better off getting a hosting account somewhere for about 7 bucks a month... that would probably be easier and smarter for you.... may i suggest www.godaddy.com for such... |
hmmm...i think your right, i also don't trust this laptop. but i still would like to have a linux server for other reasons too. i guess if i can't manage to learn all this, i'll go the easy way, thnx for the link. but, i'll learn off my laptop for now, and when the time comes, mabe i'll build myself a realy nice desktop server. plus, i'm trying to avoid the 'pay someone else for limited space and options' type deal. you usualy can't find a site that gives you all the options you want, and that takes away all the options you DONT want.
