setting up a linux mail server

i have tried in the past to use linux to set up a small office mail server, but never succeeded. i used fedora and various posts, advice, etc, but became frustrated when nothing seemed to work.

so i just got a download of ubuntu 8.04, and will set off again. can anyone suggest a procedure for setting up a small server?
i have worked with MS since dos3.0, and all the windows releases, but want to try something different. i think that windows has made me a bit lazy, and age is calcifying my thought process and reasoning, but i want to try again.

by the way, thanks for all your efforts in having this website and all the time you put in it.

thanks
jimb

Ubuntu has a web:

http://www.ubuntu.com

They also have documentation:

https://help.ubuntu.com/

If you get it to work, will you tell me how you did it so that I can learn more about Linux? I am a newbie to Linux.
