setting the clock, and a few other questions
 

Hey there, My second post woohoo.

Anyways im using Debian(after trying feather and puppy and ubuntu, debian is the only one i could get to work on my my old laptop(toshiba 2210cdt)(i like parenthesis)(but my spelling is god aweful)) and my clock is way off. Its 10 min slow and set to time in Italy or something, ive tried some hwclock stuff and ive tried to redo the base-config, to no avail. the closest i got was 2 hours and 10 min off. If it helps i want it set to Central(i believe thats -6) time.

Second question, I have a small(6gb) HD and id like to monitor it regularly i read something in the tutorial section i may try out tonight(if the gf lets me have some time to myself), other than that, what options are there?

Question 3: Ive installed XMMS, and i thought i read that it plays mpg's. I was trying to watch a video from i cant remember where google or something, I didnt want to save it just watch it, when i selected open with, it gave me a choice of where to find the player, and there is where i got lost. everything looked the same lots of /'s and bin's, and etc's, but nowhere could i find the player.


Other than that Linux is pretty darn cool, i havent had this much fun on a computer in quite some time, without playing some games.

install ntpd(network time protocol daemon). It will sync your clock and here are some instructions i googled real quick.

I had deborphan debfoster and localepurge installed to help with stuff i dont want.

but i need to know how to quickly check how much space im using, i have memstat and thats ok but i dont need all the info that i gives, cause i cant understand most of it.

"df" without the quotes, from the prompt will show u disc usage. Otherwise if you have the ram, GKrellM or superkaramba to be able to view disc usage on the desktop.
