Setting broadcast does not allow to bind

I have rhel5 on my laptop. Initially when I installed, NIS configuration
was set to broadcast but does not allow me to bind anything. When I hard bind to the NIS server, It works fine.

Please help fixing this problem as it should be set to broadcast and should work fine.
