Set Wallpaper in xstartup for vncviewer?

Hello everybody,

I am using UltraVncViewer to connect from my windows system to a linux system at my working place. I have to work a lot and the gray background becomes really depressing with time :)

I already changed the startup file to have several programs opened instantly when I start a new vncserver.

1) Now I would like to ask if I can change the startup file in a way so that an individual picture (any format) will be background in the viewer.

2) Also, all the colours are inverted. How can I change that ?

3) Then since some time, in some programs (e.g. dolphin) there is an really ugly/aggressive magenta  in the scrolling bar and background. It is terribly annoying. Is there a way to change that as well?

I am sorry to ask that many questions, but I am spending around 8 hours a day working in the vncviewer and the way it is right now is really tiresome for the eyes and somehow also depressing gray, gray, gray and disturbing magenta... )

I tried to find answers for these questions by googling but... well, I am a newbie... and if I find anything, if any, related to the topic I don't understand what to do...

Every help would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you very much!!!

AFAIK, your viewer is simply displaying the output from the X server at your workplace, so this presumably depends on the operating system used there. Do you know what that is? RedHat, Opensuse,..?

Thank you for your reply Peverel.

On our system are more or less all the systems installed. Each time when I am at the computer in the office whether I want to log in with Gnome or Kde or something else. Ich usually use Kde.

I think that because of that I can choose all kind of different desktops together with the vncviewer. The default desktop that starts is the window maker. In the previous months, I change occasionally between fluxbox, twm, window maker, fvwm. I had the most freedom with fvwm which is what I used all the time and why I also changed the startup file such that fvwm was my default setting when launching a new server and also I included some other programmes in the xstartup file so that they would also launch immediately.

Today I deleted the .vnc folder in my home directory, just to see how the "new" folder would look like. It seems like a lot has changed witin the last years ;)

Now I can choose a wallpaper, the graphics is much better than with previous Fvwm and it appears to be a little bit faster/more responsive.

However, I would keep these new settings, but now the vncviewer closes after some minutes, mostly when I do highlighting and then copy and paste. This happens again and again, so that it is impossible to work with...

I have no idea, how I can change that and I guess I have to go back to the gray background and terrible graphics :( Please help me...

I just wanted to say, that it seems to work now.

Someone had a similar problem with vncviewer automatically shutting down. https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27932

Choosing another option than "auto" in the options and deleting saved settings helped in my case. I also installed the newest version of the UltraVncViewer. My version was still from 2010.
