I would recomend setting up a server confiuration with RedHat 9 or even a workstation setup will do (these options should install their respective packages without any tinkering) then go to cpanel.net and follow their installation instructions. When you install cpanel this way it will automatically install or re-install apache as well as a couple of modules, after which you will have a running apache server with the newest version of cpanel.
