I found a 2 years old copy of redhat 8 in my girlfriends downloads.
I installed it on my WinXP in a microsoft virtual pc 2004.
I had some troubles with the videocard but after choosing VESA it is running now, also my mouse problems are fixed.
I want to setup internet via modem connection now but it is not working.
Redhat is connecting to my modem, I hear a sound and see a light like he is trying to connect and than it fails and it goes on trying and trying without result.
I'm using the graphical mode and my provider is
AOL, I contacted AOL yesterday but they cannot help me.
I use a Microlink 56k MOdem
and I' don't know exactly what u mean with that ethernet thingie, thats what I found: SiS 900 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
If someone needs more information ask me.
ow and my dialup on winxp was running without Ethernet activated, but I activated it before trying internet on Redhat.
So is it correct that u dont need Ethernet for dialup?
The Tool I used to setup connection: just networksettings in redhat 8
ok, noe there is tool called kppp in redhat
install that
that will allow u to query ur modem , and also allow u to connect u
also you will be able to get any error msgs and
in kppp, in the configure section --->modem section
select ur modem, if the default /dev/modem does not work for u
aslo other tools are
wvdial
man wvdial will help
and are u sure that ur modem had been detected in redhat??
"query modem" willl tell u that, if u get any results
I cannot find it,
I'm new into this all.
I had 3 redhat discs and my girlfriend told me there were 4.
So maybe it is on the one that is missing.
But those 3 discs were enough for the complete install
Can someone tell me where to find it?
I also cannot dld a complete cd because I'm on 56k.
Anyways thanx for the superfast replies on this site and especially from u mascand.
My battle shall be hard to understand linux but I shall not be satisfied before I can uninstall my xp forever
kppp is part of kdenetwork, so if you have kde installed it should be installed as well. If you are using GNOME, you can download GNOME PPP or Gnome Dial from GnomeFiles.org.
