Set screen resolution for text mode

Hi all,

I'm running Debian Squeeze on my Dell Latitude E6410 (using the proprietary nVidia drivers) and I'm wondering whether it's possible to increase the screen resolution for text mode? I've seen many computer booting Linux at their native screen resolution (including my work computer), whilst mine only goes to 1440x900 once gdm starts. I do some tasks at the command line, and it's be nice if I could increase the resolution.

Any tips?

If you are referring to the virtual terminals VT1 - VT6, simply edit grub's menu.lst file and change the vga= entry to "vga=0x364". That is what I have on my laptop, with a 1440x900 display.

That's exactly what I wanted. I also found there's a setting in /etc/default/grub that let's you set the resolution for grub so I did that as well. Works great, looks much nicer and makes the boot messages easier to read.

Thanks a bunch!
