Set aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9?

As you see Im a newbie, so I have a hdtv as a monitor hooked up to my desktop and this monitor is set to 1024X768 4:3. My monitor is suppose to be originally set 1024X768 16:9. In the nvidia X settings is not listed. So how can I change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9? My graphics card is: nvidia FX 5200 128MB (Ubuntu 10.04). Thanks

Try running nvidia-settings. It has everything about fine tuning your desktop and display.

If you open a terminal and run "nvidia-settings", you may well get the same graphic control display you should already have installed.

Try to type " nvidia-setting -h" and look at the command options. They should give you more control over what you need to set up your screen, using commands in the terminal.

Like I said, I don't see how can I change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in nvidia settings, in 1024X796 i can only choose 4:3, thanks!!

Well, I think i can only do it with terminal.

Is there infos in the documentation of the hdtv about using it as a monitor ?
I own a Samsung TV and there is a "Connecting to a PC" part in the user manual booklet, with the parameters to use to get the right definition.

Can you post your xorg.conf file and the xorg server version on your desktop.
