Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

You first begin by telling us WHAT 'linux' you're using, on what hardware. What version/distro? A 'real' machine or a VMware machine? And since there's alot of software out there that does this, you'll have to tell us what you're using.
Check Google for "linux virtual serial port". Lots of information.
Hey I have a linux red hat enterprise version 5.0 installed on the computer.
Its a pentium processor.
I read to test one of my application. My application will write on the serial port and it is by the hardware. And after processing the information the hardware would reply which I need to read by the application.
So instead of hardware I want to try my application using Virtual Serial port.

Ok. Did you Google for it??? Lots of How-to's come up.....
And since you're using RedHat Enterprise, why don't you give them a call, since you're paying for support?
