sendmail Version 8.11.6 giving problem

Dear helpers,
Sendmail 'Version 8.11.6' is giving problem. help req.
It is already configured and am just taking control of it. earlier it was wroking fine. but from past some time mails are not moving into the destined mailboxes. Though if i go to root's mail, all those bouncing mails are lying there in /var/spool/mail/root.

reason/error coming is "SMTP; 505 Authentication required".

here i would like to add one more point. the server 'mydomain.com' which is having sendmail installed is forwarding mails to the users which are existing on second domain 'destination.domain'.

Following is the exact message which i am gettin in root mailbox

"
Final-Recipient: RFC822; abc@destination.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 505 Authentication required
"

though it is clear that there is some setting mismatch between the sender and destination domain? but how and where do i check tht? is there any port or firewall issue that can raise this prob?

any kind of help will be appreciated.
