Hi all,
Evolution email client was crashing on me recently and had to send a message home to its mothership. It needed to install sendmail to send the message, but since using apt-get to install it I have been getting an error from sendmail that causes and annoying pause on startup that lasts a long time.
I am running Ubuntu 6.0.6 LTS
Here's the sequence of messages on boot:
________________________________________________________________
* Reading files needed to boot ... [ok]
* Preparing restricted drivers ... [ok]
* Start basic networking ... [ok]
rm: Cannot remove `/etc/sendmail.cf : Read-only file system
make: *** [sendmail.cf] Error 1
Updating auth ...
/usr/share/sendmail/update_auth: line 98 : Cannot create temp file for here document: Read-only file system
Creating /etc/mail/relay-domains
# Optional file ...
A forced reload ...
** You should issue `/etc/init.d/sendmail reload **
Mail Transport Agent: Sendmail is not running

I tried renaming /etc/init.d/sendmail.cf to sendmail.cfo . That had no effect. I also tried removing the sendmail.cf altogether and that also had no effect. I also tried going into /etc/rcd.2 (runlevel 2 is the default for Ububuntu) and renamed S21Sendmail to _S21Sendmail in order to disable it, but that also had no effect.
Any further help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
