sendmail in slackware


how do i remove sendmail from my slackware box? I nmap myself and find that 25 is open, I don't even use email on this machine.

Thanks for any info you can give me!!!

I have looked everwhere to disable it, /etc/rc.d .. etc.

Comment the sendmail start out of /etc/rc.d/rc.M

You also might want to look into:

removepkg

and then you could save the disk space too.

Watch out for scripts or programs that want to email results to root or whomever. You don't need to remove the sendmail package to stop it from listening for requests.

Besides, the disk space savings are minimal, unless you only have a gig or two drive

ok i undestand, so the system still might need to use sendmail .. but if it isnt there might cause problems?

if its not that much space, i dont care i have like a 5gig partition for it.

I stripped off sendmail, after the fact, on a box that didn't have to provide any public services... well, okay it was the samba server, and I didn't have any problems. This was on Slack 7.1 though, and of course, mileage may differ.

i just did what you suggested edit the /rc.d/rc.M file.
