Sendmail Gateway for MailScanner and exchange
Hello Everyone
I have been trying to setup MailScanner and SendMail on my Fedora Box and have all incoming mail be scanned and delivered to my Exchange Box. If someone can please walk me through step by step I would be very grateful. I am using a Fedora Core 1 Linux box with MailScanner, SpamAssassin and ClamAV. I was trying to setup sendmail to act as a gateway/relay. I would like to scan and clean the messages and then send them to my exchange box. Both have Public IPs. We have an MX record setup through our ISP. domain.com Linux Box: IP 216.x.x.136 Exchange Box: IP 216.x.x.130 I have tried many times with no luck - basically it looks like the Linux box is not receiving/accepting the mail. It delivers local mail (root@localhost) I believe the MX record is ok, because we have a surfcontrol box on the .136 address that I want to replace with the Linux box. I turn off the surfcontrol and turn on my Linux but get nothing. Thanks in advance for any help. Toby CTH3 Solutions cth3solutions.com |
I am even willing to go one step more and offer a years of web hosting for anyone who helps me get this working.

Still in trouble?
Hi, I have a similar setup and things work, so maybe I can try to help.
Are you using the mailertable to redirect messages to exchange? Can you explain more in details what you've done and the errors you get? Cheers Simone |
I have just gotten finished setting up a similar relay using fedora core 3, spamassassin, and postfix.
I'm still very much a neophyte, but if your interested I'll try walking you through what I did. Email -> spamassassin -> exchange 5.5 |
Someone had emailed me concerning my setup, In case others may find it useful, I'll post my reply here. I'd be happy to accept any criticisms and pass on any recommendations. I don’t claim my setup is the best or most efficient, just what worked for me.
I'm taking this in stages. the first step was to get the OS up and going. Kukempo. -------------------- HI, I'll try to hit the high points with you. Please note that I am by no means a Linux Expert. (In fact I'd be considered closer to a newbie). First you'll need a spare PC and the 3 ISO images for Fedora Core 3. I'm not sure of your background in Linux so initially I'd recommend a graphical setup. Go ahead and install FC3 on the PC and select the following components. X Window System (under extra packages, I'd recommend: Redhat Graphical Boot Usermode-gtk Firstboot Openssh-askpass System-config-packages System-config-services System-config-network Openssh-askpass-gnome Xterm Vnc-server (useful for remote admin) System-config-users System-config-date gdm The GNOME desktop environment. Extras: Gedit File-roller Vino (might not be needed) Graphical Internet Firefox Server Configuration tools System-switch-mail System-switch-mail-gnome Mail Server Postfix Spamassassin Network Servers Vnc-Servers (not sure why it is listed two different places) System Administration Tools (Heck, install them all) Go ahead and install these packages and get your system up and running. (Will take an hour or so) Write down the root password and keep it safe. Once the system is up and running, go into the network tools and set a static IP address to something on your local inside network (on same network as your exchange server) When this is all correct your box should be on the internet. Test this by using firefox to browse a few websites. Update all the software (open up a terminal and type: yum update This is going to take a while. Eventually the kernel will update requiring a restart or three. After any required restarts, keep doing: yum update, until no more updates are forthcoming. You should have seen spamassassin get updated to latest code 3.03 That is a bit much for now... email me back when you are at this step and I'll show you how to configure postfix to act like a mail relay into your inside domain. |
