Sendmail: downloading root's mailbin

Ok I have been playing with sendmail for a while, I set up a pop server and can download the mail from any user except root. I only look at my server when I absolutely have to and I would rather loot at root's mail on my windows machine via Eudora Pro.

For some reason the pop server will not let me log in as root and download root's mail. I can log in as any other user on my server that I have set up. Is there some special configuration I have to do to do this?

please do not make posts such as this, they can only reduce the likelihood of a useful reply. Also, your thread is utterly nothing to do with this post, please refrain in future and i'm sure we'll all get along fine, thanks.

as the the actual question, it does make sense to not be able to log in as root, but i don't know of anything set in stone. what do the logs for the pop server (and what is this meant to have to do with sendmail? afaik ths is utterly unrelated to sendmail) i don' know if your pop will have it's own log file, if not just check /var/log/messages and such like. if there is something in place it may well also be somethign inside pam if it's not daemon specific.

Well I get a response saying the password is not correct (but I am sure I am using the correct password.) [Edit] Eudora pro gets this response when it tries to download the mail. [End Edit]

Hmm maybe I could go into my alias file and rerout all root mail to another user or set it up to just send a copy of the mail to the different user and keep it going to root too.

/var/log/messages file says:
Aug 18 12:53:54 wserver ipop3d[11365]: Login failed user=root auth=root host=[192.168.1.11]
and all the other attempts say the same thing.

Thank you Acid Kewpie for your advice. I am a newbie to linux but am loving the thrill of solving many problems on my own. Sendmail has so far been the most frusterating thing to set up (next is Apache cause I was having a major problem with the reverse name resolution (where it wouldn't find out where you were trying to go if you didn't put a trailing forwardslash on the directory.
