Selective Sound Problems

I am running SUSE 10.0 and have two sound cards. One is on the motherboard itself, the other---a SoundBlaster Live 24bit or someother---is in a PCI slot. SUSE made the onboard sound the default, which had to be changed, so I modified /etc/modprobe.d/sound to reflect the PCI card as the first indexed. Having done that, I can now hear system sounds that I did not hear before, but programs like KsCD and Amarok will not function properly. For example, attempting to play a song in Amarok will cause it to cue the song, and immediately thereafter the playlist is over, without the song ever playing. In KsCD, the track progresses without any sound emitting from the speakers. There are no configurations I can perform on the SoundBlaster card in YaST. Once before I had tried to delete both the cards from the YaST sound card configuration then add the SoundBlaster back in, but doing this caused some sort of module failure, and ultimately I was forced to reinstall SUSE entirely.
