Question Selecting packages causes laptop to shutdown!

Hi All

I recently installed ubuntu 6.06 on my old pentium 3 laptop. I wanted to install alexandria library so I went to synaptic package manager and found it clicked "mark for installation" and then a window appears saying that it requires aditional packages so I click OK then approx 3-5 seconds after my laptop turns off. It doesnt shut down it just turns off like someone has pulled the plug and it has done it twice now, each time I select alexandria.

Does anyone know whats wrong, I have used synaptic package manager before with no problems but this time it just shutsdown.

Many thanks

You have some hardware problem apparently.
Do the memtest on boot.

check for bad blocks on your hard disk at least
