Segmentation Fault - Busted Kernel??

Hello,

I left my computer on all night, which I have been doing lately, I run slack 10 on my PC, no windows partition, when I came to my computer this morning my KDE desktop was frozen, so I CTRL+ ALT F2 for another login and tried to login as root there and shutdown -h now the PC, well that didn't work, I got this message.

Segmentation Fault.
Unable to handle paging request at virtual console.
followed by a all these numbers and codes.
the 3 finger salute didn't work either.
all my virtual consoles tty1-6 where frozen, and 7 with KDE was not responding.

How can I fix this problem, it has happened in the past and caused me to reinstall slack.

thanks

Cleric

yea that may in fact be a kernel bug causing mem table corruptions leading to all things bad and microsoft like.

might also be funky hardware memory ??
not sure how to check such thngs..

even if it's a process x or whatever messing up -- the kernel should be dealing with it properly not trashing the stack.

i guess its possible you are seeing the results of stack smashing buffer overrun exploit gone bad but i doubt it...

i think i'd build myself a new kernel.
