Install Xpdf or Acrobat Reader.

Install Kaffine. It will play most video content.

It has been a very long time since I used Slackware. I believe they have a package manager. Look there for the packages. You may also need to install codecs. Once again, look in the package manager.

Do you mean in a real console, without the X server? I think the easiest way is to use pdftohtml, then you can view the HTML page in Lynx, for example. Of course, since it's text based, no video or pictures are available.

no X huh? i don't know how to view pdf/pics/mov without X but i know that it's possible. i could watch movies with mplayer while being in runlevel 3. you should read something about framebuffer. this is the only advice i can give you.

good luck and if you succeded let us know...

Well the runlevel doesn't make any difference, for you can easily configure each and every normal multiuser runlevel to run X by default..so it's quite "normal" to have X running on runlevel 3, and in that case being able to read pdf files, watch movies and images isn't very exciting.

runlevel 3 is normally without X. multiuser but without X. you mean runlevel 5, don't you? to make myself clear: X was not running. mplayer played movie. it is exciting ;), for me at least...
