seeing XP filesystem from FC4
I have an XP machine that I am trying to read files from and write files to. From the XP machine I can see and access the files on the FC4 machine. From the FC4 machine I can print on a printer which is attached to the XP machine. I'm guessing most of the sharing stuff is set up but I'm obviously missing something. I'm using Konqueror to try and see the XP filesystem. Any help to uncover additional settings etc is appreciated.

the files on your windows machine need to be shared in order for them to be seen across a network.... use smbfs or LinNeighborhood to mount the windows shared folders.

I have the folders/files on the XP machine shared ie I can see them on a third W98 machine. Could you help me out with the "mount the windows shared folders" part? I haven't done any of that yet. The FC4 install has done it all the mounting for me so far. I don't see either of those programs in a rpm search so I assume they would be new installs.

i always tell newbies to get LinNeighborhood, becuase it does all the work for you, to be honesnt i use it myself regularly...
http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/ there's the link.. install it and play around with it for a while, its pretty easy to use, if you get stuck, let me know -Mike |
