Scull (Linux Device Driver)


Hi Friends,

I am new to linux and device driver stuff.I am trying to study Linux device driver book 3rd edition.
I got stucked at chapter 3.(Character device driver)
it says some thing about scull .
I don't understand what is SCULL and how it works ?
where exactly it is in kernal ?

I would appreciate your comments on this.

I think SCULL is the sample driver built in the beginning of the book. I think it stands for Simple Character Utility for Loading Localities.

I didn't mean to know the full name of SCULL.I want to know what the scull is ?i.e. for what it is used and why it is used?

Scull

SCULL - Simple Character Utility for Loading Localities.

It is an region is memory that the kernel treats as if it was device or memory in device. It is used for learning to write device drivers and is also used for testing simple drivers.
