scsi scanner problem


have microtek scanmaker X6 scsi adaptek AVA-1505 scsi adapter,Sane tells me what it can do but finds nothing,scanimage -L,tells me I have no scanner, I suspect that the scsi card is not recognised,but am Very newbie and do not know how to go about it.any advice would be very welcome, have spent days at it getting nowhere.
