I read that installing a shell or Perl interpreter into a chroot jail opens up vulnerabilities to escape the chroot. How might you do any kind of administration/management scripting if you can't use shell or perl scripts?
It depends on how the interpreter is placed in the jail. If it is physically copied (along with config files and required libraries), and has sane permissions, I don’t see how having a shell/interpreter opens up vulnerabilities.
