Screen size too big, I lose the last lines!

I'm running Debian woody just from the console, no X Window. When something fills up the screen, like 'ls', it prints the last few lines below the bottom edge of the screen. This includes the login prompt after boot, and usually means I lose any prompt a program gives, as those are always at the bottom. This was happening during the install too; I got all the way through it by pressing enter when in doubt of what it was prompting me. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you have manual read it.
If not....have you tried booting your system....andconfigure from there??
IN my computer i use REdhat so I would boot it and type lowreso to lower the resolution... I don't knowabout Debian

thanks, hope some of this works. I was weirded out because there weren't any error messages, it just quietly made the screen too big for my monitor, but hopefully this will work. Now that I recall I never set a screen resolution in setup. Thanks again!

FYI, found the problem, others seem to be having it. I just needed that magic google search combination.
