Your post is slightly incoherent. Did you manage to get your distro installed? After installation of Fedora Core 3, I managed to adjust my screen resolution by editing the xorg. conf file. I simply added the resolution I needed, 1024 x 768, to the "Modes" lines of the file. Other settings including the refresh rate can be altered with this file. Did you dual-boot your system with Windows? If so, and you're lacking info on what your screen settings should be, load Windows and browse your video settings to determine them.
