Thumbs down screen resolution problem in FC5

I just installed fedora core 5 and it won't allow me to change my screen resolution. I'm stuck at 640x480 for some reason. When i go into the display properties, it picks up my monitor and my graphics card (ati x800 xl). I downloaded new drivers from ATI's site, it said they were installed sucessfully, but i still can't change my resolution. any insite would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Change your monitor to one of the "generic" entries, with the resolution you want. The problem is that either the table entry for your monitor is incorrect (bad resolution), or your monitor is providing incorrect information to your video card.

I tried changing my monitor to the generic monitor @ 1280x1024 (my monitors max res). But still when i go to screen resolution, it doesn't allow me to change the resolution or the Hz of the monitor.
