Screen Resolution
 

The screen resolution is really becoming an issue. It tries to protect me by only displaying some modes. I used to could only run 1600x1200, I changed it down for a second, and now 1600x1200 is no longer available.
I want 2048x1536.

I am using Fedora Core 64bit with GNOME right now I think. Can someone walk me through ATI Graphics Card driver installation?

How have you changed the resolution? Try ctrl+alt+'+' and ctrl+alt+'-' key combinations - they switch between available modes (you should have quite many of them available).

That just zooms in and out.
And again, teh only available reses go up to 1400xSomething.
I downloaded what I think is the correct 'rpm' from ati.
i open it and it says it installed the package.
what do i do from there? I am yet to say anything ATI on the menus and i am still unable to up the resolution and the graphics are still slow sometimes.

Are your monitor refresh rates correct? If not, they can limit the resolution.

In Windows I can run 2048x1536. If I change the refresh rate to 60hz, 1400xSomething is the highest. Again, I had 1600x1200 yesterday, and ever since I changed it down, it has been removed from the choices.

I think this is because the ATI drivers are not installed right.
If someone can just tell me the general way to install things, it should help.

I downloaded the Xorg file.
I double clicked the RPM.
It said the package is installed.

NOW what do I do to access things like changing resolutions, multiple monitors, etc... things you normally find in Rightclick/Properties/Settings in Windows?

Also, is it possible to get all the buttons on my keyboard/mouse to work, like the Back/Forward buttons and scroll wheel?

Search for your monitor online and find the exact vertical and horizontal refresh rate ranges. Then put that information in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

i added "2048x1536" and "1600x1200" in that file under the rest of the resolutions, and 1600x1200 came back, but still no sign of 2048x1536. I need the ATI Drivers! Someone pleeeease just walk me through this or something on AIM! I am AndrewZorn...

I did the thing with the scroll wheel seems to work okay but all the other buttons just do crazy stuff... usually when I push them it either launches a URL or pastes something its all crazy. Logitech MX700. Keyboard, Cordless MX Duo, also lacks the special functions.

Actually no wait, that didn't work, because I'm still not scrolling all the time only sometimes. And what about the number lock? I know people on here have these functions working, so why is it so hard for me to find this information?

But that aside. I really really really need to get the ATI Drivers USEABLE. I ALREADY installed them, but how do I access things to change??? Someone HAS to have done this before!
