Screen Resolution

Hi All,

I have just fully installed Red Hat 9 and it is running perfectly on my machine. However, I am having one issue with my screen display. My monitor is made by 'Ipex' and is not on the list of monitors in the Display function. Therefore, it is listed as 'Generic'. I also have no video card.

My resolution is stuck on 800x600, but I would like to bring it up to 1024x768 or greater if possible. I change the resolution in Display function and it tells me I must restart linux, but when I restart it still comes up as 800x600.

Is this due to not having a video card? I would have thought that without a video card, using graphics functions on the motherboard would have been sufficent.

Thanks

David

Hi Doc!
If I remember Red Hat correctly, you should be able to run XF86config and still opt for the generic monitor. When you get to the resolution section, enter the numbers for the resolutions that you want, in order of how you want them.
For example:
1. 640x480
2. 800x600
3. 1024x768
4. 1280x1024
(etc)

You would type at the prompt 341 and hit enter. At the next screen, it will show you your selections and the color depth as well. Be sure to save the new config file.
Once in your X-window, you can change between resolutions by holding down the control and alt buttons, then tapping either the keypad - or + buttons.
Hope this helps.

lspci output please as if your claim to not having a video card would be impossible to display any graphics on a monitor screen.. you have a video card and we'll need the details in what kind it is, etc.
