Exclamation Screen Resolution

I have an install of Redhat 9 on a little 666mhz pc with a radeon 32 sd pci card. and an onboard intel video adapter.{may be part of the problem but I doubt it.}

Quite simply, I would like to know which files to edit to allow me to change the bit depth and resolution of Xwindows by ssh'ing into the computer.

*Reasoning: my installation works fine, but the monitor cuts out when it loads Xwindows I think that I just set the resolution and bit rate out of the range of my monitor with the current configurations.

*Situation: I am able to ssh into the redhat 9 box so I have command line access to the computer.

Plea: 'PLEASE HELP!'

(if you have a better solution I am all ears.)

? reading through the forums: does anyone think I can just change the init to runlevel 3 and the run redhat-config-xfree86?

_____

Update: well I tried it and at least now I have cmdln on the box but redhat-config-xfree86 just makes the monitor go black.

i think XF86config or XF86Config or xf86config. Try all of them . I forgot the correct one.
