screen refresh rate
hi I am using ARCH linux, I used to have a 100hz, but now I get only 85 in KDE, after upgrade and install some things.
and what more strength that no matter how I mess up with Xorg.conf it still stay like this, and in KDE config I can get only 85 at all resolutions, How can I fix it? :confused: |
If you have a utility called gtf installed you can generate a modeline and use that to edit your xorg.conf file. The syntax is:
$ gtf <horizontal size> <vertical size> <refresh rate> For example, if you wante a 1280x1024 resolution at 100Hz you would run: $ gtf 1280 1024 100 That's the easiest way I can think of. Here's what I get when I run that: $ gtf 1280 1024 100 # 1280x1024 @ 100.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 108.50 kHz; pclk: 190.96 MHz Modeline "1280x1024_100.00" 190.96 1280 1376 1520 1760 1024 1025 1028 1085 -HSync +Vsync Your output may be different depending on your hardware. Then you stick this: Modeline "1280x1024_100.00" 190.96 1280 1376 1520 1760 1024 1025 1028 1085 -HSync +Vsync in your xorg.conf in the Monitor section towards the end and it should overide anything else at that resolution. Reboot to have the new setting take effect. |
The only thing I'll dispute is the reboot.. Save all that rebooting for your windows machine.
CTRL+ALT+Backspace to shutdown X then restart it with startx What can I say I hate rebooting if I really don't have to. |
I hear ya but I tried that on one box where I did my trick and I didn't get the modeline activated until I rebooted. YMMV.
|
Whenever you change resolutions you have to hit CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart the xserver for it to take effect. Sax2 is a configuration utility for video. Try installing that.
|
The strength thing is that I have the line that should give me 100 hz in 1024x768 buy still I get only 85. What can I do?

Post your xorg.conf.

Here is my file

This probably won't solve your problem, but why do you have modelines for resolutions your monitor can't run? None of your Modes in the "Screen Sectoin" go above 1024x768 yet you have modelines past 1600x1200?
As far as your problem goes, have you installed the proper drivers for your video card? |
Also, if you recently updated xorg, try reinstalling your nvidia drivers.
|
I have nvidia install, and even upgrade it to the newest one.
What else can it be? |
