Screen goes while installing SUSE 9.3

Installing SUSE 9.3 on new old PC. Gets to a point where it says "found a Linux console on /dev/console"
Initialising virtual console
screen then goes with moving lines all over it. Have tried with different monitor.
I have found I can get to a Rescue prompt by starting the Rescue option and logging in as root (bash shell).
Entering sax2 dowsn´t produce anything, ie command not recognised.
Any help from anybody?
Thank you

I had the same problem when I installed.
You must select Text Mode by pressing F2 before pressing enter on Installation. I got the installation then and KDE works

Thank you very much. It works. These forums are very useful. I had not found any reference to this and a few other people tried to help on another forum. Somebody mentioned Text Mode but as it was not on the menu I did not know how to get to it.
