Screen flickering in console mode

Hi
I recently installed suse 9.2. My problem is that if i go from KDE to a commandline-session, by clicking ctrl-alt-F1 for example, the screen will flicker. Its only when i have been in KDE the problem exits, if i boot directly into a commandprompt, everything looks fine.

Hope somebody can help me, it's pretty annoying to look at.

Regards,
Lasse

I'm not an expert with Suse, but I can try to help. Do you know if you are using "lilo" as the bootloader? If so, you can edit your lilo.conf to change the VGA mode of the consoles. With a different VGA mode, this flickering will probably not happen.

You want to log in to a root console and type in:

vi /etc/lilo.conf

Replace vi with your favorite text editor (maybe nano) if you like.

You want to look for a line which starts with "vga=". Try changing this line to:

vga=769

This mode is the most basic mode, standard 640x480 with 256 colors.

To make the changes to your bootloader, type in the following command:

lilo

The command "lilo" reads lilo.conf and creates a bootloader based on the settings in lilo.conf.
