screen fails for kdb in RHEL9-graphics

Hi,

I have a RHEL-9 machine, on which i have a downloaded version of linux-2.4.20 code. I applied kdb-v4.1-2.4.20-common-1, i386 patches. After building kernel and booting up, when i press pause/break, the machine goes into kdb mode(that is Num Lock and Caps Lock) LEDs blink, but the screen doesn't switch to the usual kdb screen. kdb screen comes if while booting up i press pause/break.
Can anyone help me with this, have i left anything in the configuration or any other patch is required or anything else?

Thanks,
Sheetal
