!!!!DUMB NEWBIE QUESTION ALERT!!!!

Dumb newbie question

I'm using Knoppix 3.9 to gather information about Linux which I'm doing as a project for a course that I am doing.

Is there a way I can take a screen dump and then paste it into Open Office?

I'm looking for something similar to the windows equivalent of pressing "Print Screen" and then pasting it in to a Word document.

I have already tried the above method within knoppix (substituting Word with Open Office of course), but to no avail.

can anyone help?

Knapshot maybe? Does it save the data in the clipboard, or not? I don't know. But that's the way I get my screenshots.

ImageMagick - use the "import" command to create a screenshot, then import the file into OO

why doesn't the "print screen" button work? Is it that hard to configure?

Because there's a dozen different pieces of software that you might want the screen captured by, and you might want it saved in a particular format or in a particular place.

It's easy enough to configure it so that the print screen button does work, if that's what you want.

The Gimp also has an acquire screenshot feature.
