screen dpi in x - how do i change it??

hi,
i have mandrake 10.1 and i just installed the nvidia drivers (thanks to
mugstar's excellent guide) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=275720

I have a dell inspiron 8200 with the 1600x1200 screen...

my problem comes when i put the resolution up everything gets bigger...(i was expecting it to get smaller!!) this is due to the dpi also going up right??

i have added the line DisplaySize 300 230 in XF86Config which should bring the dpi down?? but i cant get it to work....

can anybody point me in the right direction to manually set the dpi ???

thanks

I think there are several ways to change the DPI for X.

For one, see the posting by Dead Parrot in this thread:

thanks tredegar... that info helped

that displaysize 300 230 line in xorg.conf was working but only changing it very slightly so i increased it to 450 338 and now it runs at 91 dpi....

thanks again
