screen color and resolution

Well my question is more about the color than the resolution.
Right now, my sreen is set at 24 bit color, and befor switching to linux, with xp, i had 32 bit ( nvidea fx 5200 ) I cant go past 24 in linux. Any1 know y? And also what is the resolution most people use with 17" crt? im at 1280x1024 cuz 1024x768 seemed to big.

Thanks

Currently my monitor is the same resolution as yours (with 24bit). I don't think nVidia wrote a driver yet that currently supports 32bit mode. They probably are going to support it later, I'm not sure though. =)
