Scare of Asus P5W DH wi-fi...
Hi guys!
I'm new to Linux and I recently purchased an ASUS P5W DH. After reading some notices that Vista is not gonna let you install ANY pirate software (Photoshop, Inventor...), I decided to move into Linux. My question is, my mb (Asus P5W DH) has built-in wi-fi and I don't know how hard is to get it to work with Linux. Does anyone has any experience on this? Thanks for your time guys!! PS: I'll use Ubuntu (at least that my first option). |
The cource of action would be to'
1. Find out what the wifi chip name on that board is. Browse ASUS documentation, ask them. 2. See if there is a Linux driver for that chip. Always mention that you use Ubuntu on subsequent forums you ask. A compattible driver MAY me already present in Ubuntu, just not automatically installed. 3. If all else fails, accept you have to buy a wifi card (that you know will work). Not all hardware is supported on Linux. Expecially not all new stuff. About the software; It's untrue that Vista will disallow pirated software. The crack for Vista just may be a bit diffrend. There is extra DRM in Vista, but most of it is easyly crackable as proven recently. Anyway, have you tried The Gimp? 99% of people thinking they need Photoshop can do just as well with the Gimp, its free en opensource too. |
Hi Im reasonable new to Linux and I love it to bits, I have know intention of going back to Windows but I to am looking to upgrade my motherboard but I just dont know what make would be a good purchase support wise??? Can I go wrong with an ASUS?????

Linux will work on any motherboard. There is just the chance that some of the intergrated stuff may not work. That is no biggy as you can always by a expantion (PCI) card.
ATI grapic cards and intergated wifi are prety much the forefront of the problem. All the other stuff will most likely work. |
