Scanning for errors

Hey guys,
Just wondering how you would go about scanning an EXT3 partition for errors. Is it any different to a EXT2?
Thanks guys.

Nope (Just to note, it **could be** but isn't likely as your journal file is not likely outsourced which I don't really understand myself all that well..)

Just make sure that baby ain't mounted or is at the VERY least, read-only, then:
fsck -f /dev/hdx
The -f is likely necessary since it probably isn't marked dirty.

HTH

Cool

And, if you want to scan your / partition, which you cannot unmount while the system is running, try:
shutdown -Fr now

which will reboot (-r) and then, at the startup, force a fsck check (-F) on all partitions.
