Scanner suddenly stopped working.

I'm running Linux Mint 13, based on Ubuntu 12.04.

I have been using my scanner for years but suddenly it is no longer working. I'm not sure if it is a recent update that has broken it, but when I go into xsane (or any software) it says "no devices available".

I tried unplugging the scanner. Changing USB cords. Changing USB ports but it is the same result. I've run some CLI utilities:

Code:

Code:

It seems as though my system is recognizing the scanner but none of the software works. I normally scan within a VirtualBox machine using Adobe Acrobat Pro. It stopped working in there and I assumed it was a Vbox problem. But, the problem seems to be rooted in my linux machine and that is probably why the vbox is not working any more.

Can someone please help me get this working?

First question. Are you Positive that the scanner has not broken?

jim.thornton 08-11-2014 11:37 AM

No, I'm not positive. I have a 3 year old.

I will install it into my Windows machine and see what happens. I'll be back!

I have confirmed that the scanner is 100% operational. I installed it into my wifes Windows 7 machine without a problem.

So the issue is definitely Linux based. I think it might have been from some package update. But I have no clue which package would have caused the issue.

Might be Debian bug #738592. Disable xHCI in the BIOS.
