Saving installations/updates on an external HDD when running off of the Live CD
Hi all,
My hard drive is in a pretty sorry state, so installation doesn't work. I'm leaving on holiday very soon, and don't have time to sort it out before then. I'd like to bring my laptop so that I could watch some films that I have on my external hard drive. Unfortunately, I won't have internet access where I'm going, and was therefore wondering if there was any way to run Ubuntu on the live CD, download either VLC or the updates for the Totem movie player, but somehow save them on my external, so that I could turn off/turn on my computer and run the live cd whenever, and not need to worry about having an internet connection in order to watch movies, and instead just install them from my hard drive.
Any ideas?
